AL SHAQAB stands as an enduring tribute to the Arabian horse and the tradition of equestrian excellence that has co-evolved with this breed in Qatar.

The range of equine disciplines and programs that AL SHAQAB promotes ensures that the cultural legacy and appreciation of the Arabian breed are lovingly handed down in Qatar from generation to generation.

Vision, foresight and a passion to preserve and perpetuate the Arabian horse in Qatar led His Highness The Emir Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani to establish Al Shaqab in 1992. In honor of his ancestor, Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani, he located the Arabian breeding farm at the landmark Al Shaqab battle site where more than a century ago the Bedouins had fought a pivotal battle that led to Qatar's independence.

Within an amazingly short period of time, Al Shaqab bred three World Champion stallions, Gazal Al Shaqab, Al Adeed Al Shaqab and Marwan Al Shaqab. Today, champion offspring of these stallions enhance the pedigrees of Arabian horses in Qatar and worldwide.

In 2004, Al Shaqab became a member of Qatar Foundation with the mission to promote the highest standards in the breeding and showing of Arabian horses and provide innovative, educational and competitive opportunities in all of the equestrian arts. Based on three guiding principles - Excellence, Education and Heritage - Al Shaqab began a visionary expansion in 2006 with the development of a world-class equestrian centre.

أصبح الشقب عضوا في مؤسسة قطر عام 2004 تحت رعاية وقيادة سعادة الشيخ محمد بن حمد بن خليفة آل ثاني، رئيس مجلس إدارة الشقب، بهدف تحقيق أفضل المستويات في مجال استيلاد وانتاج الخيل العربية واصطفاء أجملها للعرض في المسابقات العالمية، بالإضافة إلى توفير فرص تعليمية مبتكرة وتنافسية في جميع فنون الفروسية.
وانطلاقاً من ثلاثة مبادئ جوهرية –– التميز، والتعليم، والتراث – باشر الشقب عام 2006 في تنفيذ خطه توسعية لتحقيق رؤيته الاستراتيجية بالإرتقاء بمهارات ركوب وانتاج الخيل عن طريق بناء مركز فروسية متخصص على أحدث طراز.
وتمكن بعدها بفترة قصيرة من الفوز بالبطولات الدولية في مسابقات جمال الخيل وقوة التحمل بواسطة مجموعة من الخيل العربية المميزه، ويمثل الشقب اليوم احد المنشأآت الرائدة في مجال التناسل في العالم وتظل الشقب هي المزرعة الوحيدة التي انتجت ثلاثة أبطال عالميين جميعهم ولدوا في قطر. بقي الشقب لسنوات عديدة الوجهه المقصودة لزوار مدينة الدوحة، وتلبية لهذا الأهتمام سوف يضم المبني الجديد مركزاً للزوار ومتحفاً لعرض تراث الخيل العربية.

يولي الشقب اهتماماً كبيراً بالخيل العربية. كما أنه يسعى دوماً لتحقيق التميز في ميدان الفروسية التي تطورت تدريجياً وارتبطت ارتباطاً وثيقاً بالخيل الأصيلة المتواجدة في دولة قطر.
ويسعى الشقب إلى وضع مجموعة من الأسس والضوابط في مجال الفروسية لضمان حفظ إرث الدولة الثقافي الذي تناقلته الأجيال السابقة والعمل على نقله إلى الأجيال القادمة.
