The Lebanese Organisation for Studies and Training

General information

Lebanese Organization for Studies and Training (LOST), was founded in 1998 to meet the educational and cultural needs of local civil society outside of the university setting, offering Bekaa Valley residents’ education lessons in English, computer skills and conflict management. The Board of Directors consists of seven members and the President is Dr. Ramy Lakkis, a professor of political science at the Lebanese American University, who oversees activities for four offices and 40 staff. LOST seeks to contribute to the social and economic development in traditional contexts by enhancing local capacities and participation to create an equitable society. Its programs are intended to help, train and educate women, children and young people.

* Beneficiaries:

Thousands of people and many institutions have benefited from LOST's services and activities since its foundation; (public schools, local NGOs, local teachers and students, municipalities and public institutions).

* Programs:

Youth programs: include the Academy of Active Citizen and the Academy of Municipal Work. These programs engage youngsters from different backgrounds, religion, sects, and mentalities enabling them to communicate and interact in different workshops on citizenship, conflict resolution, and civic participation in addition to other activities which help participants lessen sectarian attitudes and beliefs.

Women’s Empowerment programs: support less fortunate women in providing them with necessary business, English, and computer training to make them more economically independent.

Kids programs: consist of entertainment and education camps that run continuously over the year. These programs comprise activities such as drawing, theater, music and other actions that develop kids’ talents and skills.
